UBISOFT ANNOUNCES SPLINTER CELL GRAPHIC NOVEL

SAN FRANCISCO — October 11, 2012 — Today, Ubisoft® announced a partnership with renowned writer Nathan Edmondson and artist Marc Laming to create a graphic novel based on the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell franchise. This collaboration will introduce readers to new facets of Sam Fisher and will explore the Splinter Cell universe from a fresh perspective.

Set for release in 2013, the Splinter Cell® Echoes graphic novel takes place between the events of Splinter Cell Conviction and Splinter Cell Blacklist. “Nathan Edmondson and Marc Laming are respected experts in their fields and we are so incredibly fortunate to have them on board for the Splinter Cell graphic novel,” said Patrick Redding, game director, Ubisoft Toronto. “Nathan’s work in The Activity put him on our radar with its gripping balance between real-world geopolitics and high-tech spy fantasy themes we also explore in Splinter Cell. We’re confident that all readers – whether they’ve played every game in the series or are new to the franchise – are going to really engage with this story and the level of fine detail Nathan and Marc inject into their book.”

Nathan Edmondson is a comic book and screenwriter and native of Augusta, Georgia. His critically-acclaimed work includes the comics Who is Jake Ellis?, Grifter and The Activity. An illustrator and comic book artist, Marc Laming was artist for The Activity and has contributed illustrations and art to dozens of comics for some of the world’s biggest publishers including DC Comics and Image Comics.

“Sam Fisher is a legend, but this story is our own. We are working with Ubisoft to add something special to the Splinter Cell canon that will simultaneously be exciting to fans of the series while being a thrilling standalone read,” said Nathan Edmondson. “Together with Marc Laming, Studio Lounak and the Ubisoft Toronto team we’re shedding new light on Sam Fisher.”

More details and availability for the Splinter Cell Echoes graphic novel will be revealed in the coming months.

Splinter Cell Blacklist Fifth Freedom Trailer

SPLINTER CELL BLACKLIST FIFTH FREEDOM TRAILER

Introduction
In 1941 President Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave what became known as the “Four Freedoms” speech, laying out the quartet of fundamental liberties that people, “everywhere in the world” should hold as a birthright. Those four, brought forth as the world struggled with unprecedented barbarity, were as follows:

     i.      Freedom of speech and expression
     ii.     Freedom of worship
     iii.    Freedom from want
     iv.     Freedom from fear

The Fifth Freedom
But it was recognized that as noble as the ideal of the Four Freedoms might be, there would be times when they would need to be defended: against oppression, against tyrants, and against terror. Thus was born the Fifth Freedom, the right and responsibility to do whatever it took to protect the other four. The bearer of the Fifth Freedom has a mandate go anywhere they need and do anything they must – kill, steal, or destroy – in the interest of the greater good. Only the President can authorize the Fifth Freedom, and only the most skilled and trustworthy operatives America has to offer have ever received it.

And until now, no man has ever received it twice.

Sam Fisher
Sam Fisher initially received the Fifth Freedom as the prototype for the new Splinter Cell program. At a time when the scope of information warfare was exploding, Third Echelon needed an agent who could combine cutting-edge technology with old-fashioned tradecraft. Using the Fifth Freedom judiciously, Fisher defended the United States against biological attack, against state-sponsored cyberwarfare, and against domestic terrorism – before walking away.

Now, however, the stakes have been raised. Terror has targeted the American heartland, and nowhere - and no one - is safe. At a time when the President cannot rely on anyone else to meet the new challenge of the Blacklist, Sam agrees to take up the burden – and the Fifth Freedom – once again.

E3 2012 has come and gone, and Splinter Cell Blacklist was the talk of the show!

Check out our coverage wrap-up below:

GameSpot.com
“Splinter Cell Blacklist is visually stunning and colorfully gruesome, but what really stands out is stunning choreography that lends the gameplay a visual quality that has clearly been influenced by the fluidity and elegance of Assassin’s Creed."

"Additionally, the fan-favorite multiplayer mode Spies vs Mercs returns after its absence from Splinter Cell: Conviction. While no new details have surfaced, its very inclusion has further whet our appetites.

Gamesradar.com
“Whether it's hanging from a ledge, behind a sandbag, or from two stories up, Sam can take down targets with fluid, vicious grace."

G4TV.com

"...it looked pretty darn good for a game that had been just been announced."

IGN.com
“Whether through more traditional, conventional stealth tactics, or by blowing everything up in sight, the notion of variety and choice dominates the landscape of Splinter Cell Blacklist. That’s a good thing considering the formidable task at hand."

“Longtime fans will be pleased to hear that the multiplayer mode Spies vs. Mercenaries, missing from Conviction, will return."

“In previous Splinter Cell games we were playing as Sam Fisher. Now we’re finally starting to feel like we are him.”

UBISOFT® UNVEILS TOM CLANCY’S SPLINTER CELL® BLACKLIST™

2012-05-16T10:49:08

LOS ANGELES — June 4, 2012 —Today, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft® unveiled the development of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Blacklist™, the next blockbuster title in the critically acclaimed Tom Clancy franchise. The game will be available worldwide for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC in spring 2013.

As the first production project from Ubisoft Toronto, with support from Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Shanghai, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist delivers a gripping modern-day special ops storyline with a new level of technical innovation and quality. The game includes voice recognition features on Kinect™ for Xbox 360®, an arsenal of new gadgets and reinvented classic weapons, as well as a new “Killing-in-Motion” fighting style, which allows players to strike with lethal precision by marking and executing multiple enemies in one fluid motion.

In the game, a group of 12 rogue nations have had enough of the United States’ military presence in their countries. In an effort to force the withdrawal of the U.S. forces, they mastermind “The Blacklist,” a countdown of escalating terrorist attacks on U.S. assets. Given a presidential mandate and the power to act above the law, players take on the role of lethal operative Sam Fisher. Outfitted with Sam’s infamous tactical suit and goggles, players will infiltrate terrorist cells while using ruthless interrogation methods to extract crucial information to prevent the next Blacklist attack.

The thrilling storyline and wide range of intense, eye-opening missions will propel players to find those responsible for these deadly assaults by any means necessary. Throughout the game, Sam and Fourth Echelon seek out their missions aboard a new Mobile Command Center housed inside a stealth aircraft. Ready to take off at a moment’s notice, Fourth Echelon is equipped with unlimited resources and cutting-edge technology including a Strategic Mission Interface that reports global events in real time.

“Ubisoft Toronto has taken great care to develop an evolutionary Sam Fisher experience that takes the franchise to dramatic new heights,” said Maxime Beland, creative director at Ubisoft. “With exciting gameplay enhanced by full motion-capture performances, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist offers a highly cinematic experience that will immerse fans and gamers new to the series into an intricate, action-packed adventure.”
